Genital Warts Explained: Symptoms and Treatment Options

Learn what genital warts look like, how they are caused by HPV, treatment options, and how the Gardasil vaccine can help reduce risk.

Genital Warts

Genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection that is caused by exposure to a strain of HPV, human papilloma virus.

Genital warts are typically painless, flesh-colored, cauliflower-shaped bumps on and around the genitals.

Some people have only one wart, others may have many. It depends on your body's response to the HPV virus.

Treatment

Genital warts can be treated at home or in the office. Your body will fight off the HPV on its own eventually, but some people choose to have the warts treated or removed in the meantime.

Prevention

We recommend getting the Gardasil vaccine, the vaccine for HPV, to help reduce your risk of getting a strain of HPV that may cause genital warts.
